Our Angel

An angel is a spirit created by God…

Pure…

Powerful…

Profound…

Prominent…

That is what you are, Samantha. You were on this Earth for only almost 4 months… yet in those 4 months, you made such a great impression on our lives. You brought cheer to our hearts and love into our homes. Now that you are no longer here in body, we will continue to love you in spirit. You will never be forgotten. You will always be missed.

The littlest feet make the biggest footprints in our hearts. I’m sad because we lost an angel here on Earth but happy because Heaven gained another Precious Angel. My lovely niece…

We love you, Sammy…

How Did You Do It?

As a child, I dreamed of becoming a doctor.  This dream was the driving force behind my educational vision and accomplishments.   I began my residency as a single mother with a newborn.

It’s no secret that the life of a single mother is difficult.  Each day brings fresh challenges and new fears.  The days and nights are precious, but long and sometimes lonely.  Adjusting and readjusting to changing phases and milestones is hard; finding a work/life balance is harder still.

Four years have passed since my residency, and I am often asked how I realized my dream of becoming a doctor while raising my child alone.  My motivational and truthful answer is this: by the grace of God and with self-determination.  I never took my eye off of the prize.  My strategy may have evolved with changing circumstances, but my vision remained the same.

To follow me on my journey, sign up to receive notifications of new blog posts.  I can also be found on several social media sites.  Thanks for stopping by, and I’m looking forward to connecting with you!

Ready? Set… Go!

Setting goals is the first step to turning the invisible into the visible. We are the creative force of our life and through our own decisions rather than our conditions, we can accomplish those goals. Don’t get bogged down in everyday life that you get trapped in a repetitive routine and forget to keep pushing forward.

Discipline is the bridge between goals and accomplishments. Sit down… take a moment… evaluate your position… and plan your next move. What do you want from your life? What drives you? Is it a fitness goal? financial goal? career goal? relationship goal? lifestyle goal? If done right, goal setting can easily motivate you to take massive action and grow as a person.

Allow yourself to dream a little. Put your thoughts in writing. What will your first step be? What time frame are you working with? Is this a short-term or long-term goal? Create an action plan and more importantly, take the first step!

Don’t judge each day by the harvest you reap, but by the seeds that you plant…

Good luck.

Ready? Set… Go!

Our Burdens…

We fail to realize that we aren’t the only human beings treading this land. We tend to believe that our problems are worst than everyone else’s. We take for granted the privilege that we have been blessed with despite what you find faults in. Therefore, my suggestion to you is to think of your “problems” differently. Always take it back to what is “positive” about what you are going through. Being positive-minded can change your whole outlook on life. I am not innocent. I am learning myself every single day and I impart this wisdom upon you by reflecting on me. Sparing you of the details, my experiences and what I have learned from them are what drives me on this mission to spread the humanitarian model.

I urge you to lead by example. Our everyday encounters with others speak volumes about the types of people we are. Simple acts of kindness and respect goes a very long way. No act of kindness no matter how small, goes unrewarded. I suggest that people learn to respect all kinds of people because everyone is fighting a battle of his/her own. We all have our problems, bad sides, and bad days. But there is so much more behind it, behind you, behind everyone.

Give your burdens to the Lord, and he will take care of you. ~Psalm 55:22

This Journey Called Life…

Have you ever stopped in your tracks to reflect on your life?

Remember when you were a kid? Your primary concern was finishing lunch so you can play outside, making sure your bike was safe, and ringing your friends doorbell to ask to come out and play. Then the teenage years came around where you were getting into how you fit in with others, figuring out what sports you liked, and the clothes you wore. Let’s not forget high school. This is likely where your social life kicked in, peer pressure arose, and you might have even anxiously awaited to get out early from classes to hang out after school. Then… you were considered an “adult”… but no, we weren’t ready for that. Get a job? Go to college? Pay bills? In my Steve Urkel voice, “Mommy help!”.

We were in such a rush to grow up. Little did we know what we were getting into. Now, here we are… At some point in life, which I like to call the turning point, we learn to take our life by the horns and go for it! That happens earlier for some than others. But what I want you to do is to stop and think about where you are now in life… and how you got there. Did someone inspire you? Did you go through hills and valleys? Did you take the easy road out and wish you hadn’t? Stop and reflect on your life and where you are now and ask yourself if you are happy.

Essentially, in this journey called life, we have to remember to live in the moment. The past brought you to where you are today. But right now… at this very moment, what will you decide to do to make yourself “happy” so that you can live happily for the days you are blessed with to experience?
